Welcome to Create A Home You Love

Courtney - Artist and Blogger - Create A Home You Love

Hi! I’m Courtney. This is my new blog Create A Home You Love. It launches January 5, 2023 with new posts every week.

Here’s a little bit about me.

I am an artist and writer and baker of lopsided cakes. I gleefully shop at thrift stores and yard sales. And I will pull this car over right now if I see something interesting out on the curb that I could take home and paint. I love my home, but it’s a work in progress.

Kind of like me. 🙂

Why Create A Home You Love?

I truly believe that everybody can create a home you love to live in. That’s going to look different for everyone because every home is unique – a reflection of the wonderfully unique people who live in it.

I also believe our homes are sacred spaces. Home is where you come to unwind at the end of a busy day, take off your shoes and relax. This is where you curl up under a warm blanket when you aren’t feeling well. And this is where you celebrate birthdays and holidays and a good grade on a math test your child worked really hard to pass.

(Have I mentioned yet how much I love cake? I can come up with all kinds of reasons to celebrate!)

Home is also where all of the everyday things like packing lunches and washing dishes and folding laundry take place. It is where life is lived – and I’m learning that all of those little mundane things are sacred too.

I am really excited to be launching this new blog. I created it to be a space where you can come for ideas, encouragement and inspiration to express your creativity in your home.

To make your home a place you love to live in.

Let’s Manage Expectations Here!

Before I tell you more of what this blog is all about, let me tell you what it isn’t.

  • This isn’t a blog about following the latest trends in home décor and design so your house looks like it jumped off somebody else’s Pinterest page. My home doesn’t look like that.
  • This isn’t a blog featuring amazing DIY projects that are way too complicated for regular people to actually do. I’m not really good at projects like that.
  • And this isn’t a blog telling you how your home should look. Only you can decide that! It’s your home! It needs to reflect your style.

For me, creating a home I love to live in means a home that is

  • Functional
  • Comfortable
  • Beautiful

I want my home to be the place where the people I love come to fill up on goodness so they can go back out into the world and be amazing. Basically, I want my home to simply feel good every time we walk through the door.

Previously, I worked as a professional furniture artist for more than 10 years at my family’s store All Things New Again in Leesburg, Virginia. I still love finding old furniture, then reimagining it to be beautiful and useful again.

I also love repurposing and upcycling unexpected items into interesting and sustainable home décor and art. There’s something about bringing beauty and new life to items others have discarded that just lights me up – and saves a little landfill space.

What’s next?

So that’s what Create A Home You Love is all about. I intend to publish a new post every week starting January 5, 2023. Sometimes it will be a painted furniture project. Sometimes it will be a DIY project (an easy, do-able one!). Sometimes it will just be my thoughts on expressing your creativity in your home or maybe an interview with somebody interesting.

Does that sound like fun?

I invite you to join me on this new adventure. Please subscribe to the blog so you get notified about new posts.

I also invite you to follow me over on Instagram @createahomeyoulove

Now that this blog I’ve been thinking about and dreaming about for so long is out in the world, it’s time to celebrate!

I’ll bake a cake!

Love,

Courtney

PS—I would love to hear your thoughts on Create A Home You Love. What does that phrase mean to you? What is important to you for creating a home you love?
